Nkechi Isa, the spokesperson for the Federal Capital Territory Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), revealed that a diesel tank explosion was the root cause of the fire incident at the Canadian high commission. Tragically, the incident claimed the lives of two individuals, and one more person suffered severe injuries.
In a separate occurrence on the same fateful night, one of Samsung's electronic retail outlets in Abuja also fell victim to a devastating fire. The cause of this fire was attributed to negligent welding activities conducted near a pile of empty, combustible cartons, resulting in a blaze that consumed valuable goods.
Obi took to his official X page to convey his condolences and concerns regarding these unsettling events. He said,
"The reports of the two fire incidents that rocked the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, yesterday, are very concerning." His statement continued, "First, a fire incident was reported at the Canadian High Commission, Abuja, where about 2 people reportedly lost their lives, and next was the Samsung office at the Banex Junction in Wuse 2, Abuja, where goods worth millions of naira have been destroyed."
