Nigerian singer, Davido, has revealed that working on his latest album, ‘Timeless’, was a therapeutic experience for him after losing his son, Ifeanyi Adeleke, in October 2022.
Davido released the album on March 31, 2023, and it became his first musical project since the tragic incident. The album broke several records and received critical acclaim from fans and critics alike.

In a recent interview with Zane Lowe of Apple Music 1, Davido opened up about the creative process behind the album. He said that he recorded most of the songs in his home, where he lived with his wife and her sisters. He also had one of his friends staying with him. He said that this gave him a peaceful environment to create music.
He said:
“I made most of the album in my house where I stay with my wife. It was just me, her, her sisters, and one of my guys with me. It made me relax more. It was a healing process, because I was happy to be making music. I felt like a new artiste that just got signed.”
Davido also said that he had initially made 28 songs for the album, but he had to cut some out. He said that he wanted the album to stand on its own quality, rather than being influenced by the sympathy of his fans over his son’s death.
He also said that he was most focused when he was on a plane, and that he often wrote songs while flying.
Davido also talked about his ‘Are We African Yet’ festival, which is taking place in Atlanta on 18th November. He said that he wanted to give different artistes the opportunity to perform for their fans in the US, and to showcase the diversity and richness of African culture.
He said:
“I want to give (different artistes) the chance to come every year and perform. They actually have fans here but they don’t know. With the Internet, you just need to drop a song on TikTok, and it’s gone (goes viral).
“I feel like we have to own our culture. We can’t wait for somebody else to bring the idea. We have to do this ourselves.”
He said that he envisioned the festival to be something for the culture, not just for himself. He said that he planned to move the festival to other cities such as Los Angeles and Toronto (Canada) in the future.
